Butterflies plus a Lifer

I've had some better luck with butterflies at Komoka July 2024.  Here are some photos plus a Lifer.

I found this baby Painted Turtle on the trail so I moved it closer to the water's edge.

At Uplands North Wetland, April 16, I got my first Cabbage White of the year.

The last two days I was at Greenway Park.  Overcast days with heavy drizzle at times and strong NW winds.  The Osprey was kept low on the nest.  A Western Tanager was found at Greenway the other day, so I was trying to find it along with other birders but no luck.

Wednesday, July 24, 2019 - Hyde Park

I went for a walk in Hyde Park this morning.  It was sunny, high of 25c.
Butterflies were scarce.  I saw a couple of Monarchs, one Red Admiral and no Cabbage Whites.  I have not seen any of the yellow/sulphur butterflies as of yet.  Dragonflies are not any better...very few.  Last year, there were lots of dragonflies in this area.  

I saw a nice variety of birds though.  Great-Blue Heron, Pied-bill Grebe, Ring-billed Gull, a family of Northern Flickers, Willow Flycatcher, Spotted Sandpipers (2), Song Sparrows, American Goldfinches to name a few.

Happenings in London

May 15, 2019 - The Coves

It has been a very nice week weather wise.  I went to the Coves a few times and to Springbank Park.  Lots of birds singing and I'm starting to see butterflies.

May 16 - The Coves

I noticed this White-tailed Deer laying behind some bushes and saw two more at another part of the Coves. 

The grackles were making a fuss so I looked up and there was a Red-tailed Hawk up in the tree being attacked by the grackles.  It didn't seem to bother the hawk.  It finally took off and the grackles followed it and continued the attack.

May 17 - Springbank Park

The first bird I saw was a Scarlet Tanager.  I rarely see tanagers in London.  They are probably around, I just miss them.

I went to the area in the park where lots of trees are in bloom.  I always see a lot of Baltimore Orioles in this area.
