Butterflies plus a Lifer

I've had some better luck with butterflies at Komoka July 2024.  Here are some photos plus a Lifer.

Viceroy

Red Admiral

The Eastern Comma. This is the 2nd one I've ever seen.  The other was in June 2022.

The Tawny Emperor is a Lifer.

I was so pleased to see my 2nd Snowberry Clearwing this summer. I got better shots this time.

Variety of Stuff at Hyde Park

Wednesday, August 15, 2018, Hyde Park, London Ontario

I went to Hyde Park in the afternoon.  It was pretty warm.  I stayed for about one hour and saw nice variety of things.

Bluet Damselfly sp.

Common Ringlet

Cabbage White

Song Sparrow

Eastern Tailed-Blues are so pretty when they are flying.

Many Common Ringlets today.

Common Ringlet

Great Blue Heron

Clouded Sulphur

I saw my first Clearwing Moth July 26/18.  I can't believe I saw another one today!  I was fumbling with my camera trying to get some nice shots as it was moving from flower to flower.  This is the best I can do.  It could be a Snowberry Clearwing.

Double-crested Cormorant

Halloween Pennant

This is a very beautiful flower...not sure what it is.

I managed to get one photo of this flycatcher before it flew off.  Then I saw it again on the walkway.  Not good at flycatcher IDs but I think it's an Eastern Phoebe.

A Jaunt at Hyde Park

Hyde Park Drainage Pond, London, Ontario

I spent some time at the pond this morning.  It was quiet bird wise.  There were Mallards, some Barn Swallows flying around, a few Song Sparrows and Field Sparrows.  Dragonflies were scarce too - saw a bluet damselfly and a Common Whitetail dragonfly.

I was pleased to see 5 Monarchs and a few Cabbage Whites.

The next photo is a Snowberry Clearwing.  It's a moth that flies like a hummingbird.  One can find these in broad daylight sipping on nectar of the Wild Bergamot.  Thanks for the correct ID, Blake!  This was exciting as this is a new species for me.
