Nature Walk

Greenway Park, Nature London

I went for a walk with a group of people to see if we can find any interesting birds and plants.  Starting the walk at 1:00pm...it was cloudy, cool, 14c.  As our walk continued, the sun came out and it warmed up nicely. The bird species I saw (there were some other species but I couldn't get my eye on them)  Osprey, Bald Eagle, Killdeer, lots of American Robins, Northern Cardinals, Downy Woodpecker, Great Egret, Greater Yellowlegs, Mallards, Crows, Starlings, House Sparrows, Great Blue Heron, American Goldfinch and Ring-billed Gulls.  For butterflies, there were Cabbage Whites and lots of Sulphur sp. We wrapped up the afternoon around 3:00pm.  It was a very nice afternoon.

Greenway Park

I went to Greenway Park this afternoon.  This is my type of weather, a very comfortable 15c with a cool breeze and it was cloudy at the time I was out.  I saw the usual birds...a Great Blue Heron, Barn Swallows, Ring-billed Gulls, Mallards, Canada Geese, Red-winged Blackbirds, Song Sparrows and Robins.  I heard a Warbling Vireo, Red-bellied Woodpecker, and some Yellow Warblers.

I took some pictures of flowers today.

It was cloudy this morning about 10c.  I walked a few different spots in Greenway Park.  I can hear Baltimore Orioles and Yellow Warblers but could not see them.  There were a few Canada Geese families around.

I went out for a walk this afternoon at Greenway and part of the Coves.  It was a nice warm day, 19c, calm SE winds.
I saw some butterflies, a few Cabbage Whites and a Red Admiral.  I was able to see some birds, Eastern Kingbird, Yellow Warbler, Baltimore Oriole, Red-breasted Nuthatch, and Carolina Wren along with others.
My eyes and focusing the camera were not cooperating today.

I decided to go to Greenway Park this morning.  With the rain all day yesterday, it was quite wet on the grass, etc.  I saw a variety of birds.  Lots of Red-winged Blackbirds, Robins, Grackles, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Mourning Dove, Song Sparrows, Mallards, Canada Geese, Ring-billed Gulls, Rock Dove, Red-bellied Woodpecker, and Black-capped Chickadees. 

I heard a Carolina Wren and a Northern Flicker.

I saw a flurry of woodpeckers....a pair of Downy Woodpeckers

Greenway Walk

It was a nice day to go for a walk in Greenway.  I walked along the river and heard lots Red-winged Blackbirds...nice sounds of Spring!
I also saw Mallards, Canada Geese, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Cardinal, Common Crows, Rock Doves, Red-tailed Hawk, and Common Mergansers.

This area of Greenway is a large grass area beside the parking lot.  Now it's a small lake, deep enough so that the mallards can swim around.

I went for a walk in Greenway Park on this sunny morning.  We still have a lot of snow topped with a hard crust from the freezing rain last weekend.  I saw lots of Mallards and Canada Geese in the Thames River.

It was really nice to see a robin!  I also heard a Red-bellied Woodpecker.

Walking along the river, there are lots of bushes and tangle that makes it difficult to take photos.  I couldn't get a clear view of the Cardinal.

The Common Mergansers were at the other side of the river so trying to take photos through the tangle.  There were also Common Goldeneyes, Bufflehead and Ring-billed Gulls.

I thought I would try Greenway Park today so I walked along the Thames River.  There were lots of Mallards, Canada Geese, heard a cardinal and blue jays.  I saw a pair of Hooded Mergansers and Common Goldeneyes.  The Hooded Mergansers are beautiful ducks.

Springbank to Greenway

I went for a walk part in Springbank Park to Greenway Park.  With the recent rain, plus temperatures and melting snow, the Thames River is very high. It was tricky walking as there was ice and the snow that's around is hard and crusty which made it slippery.  I usually fall a couple of times in the winter with the ice, etc. but so far, (had a close call) I've been OK this winter.
I also saw a Downy Woodpecker, Blue Jay, Canada Geese and lots of Mallards.
