A Snowy Week In London

December 11, 2024

We got our first snowstorm this week in London.  About 2 ft of snow.  I went to Springbank Park the day after the heavy snowfall.  There were Canada Geese, Mallards, Common Mergansers, Ring-billed Gulls and it was nice to see a Northern Pintail.  I don't see them to often.  Lots of Dark-eyed Juncos, American Goldfinches, and Northern Cardinals.

I went to Greenway Park to see what was around.  There were lots of Ring-billed Gulls and some American Herring Gulls.  Some Common Mergansers were around, Hooded Mergansers, Green-winged Teals (8), Great Blue Herons (6), and a couple of Bald Eagles flew by.

It was a nice surprise to find a Hermit Thrush!

Birding End of October 2022

I went to a few places at the end of the week into the weekend.  Still seeing migrating birds lingering around....Yellow-rumped Warblers, Red-winged Blackbirds, and Field Sparrows.  A lot of American Robins this week and Cedar Waxwings.

Pied-billed Grebe

There were 2 Hermit Thrushes in the bush and birds eating weed seeds -  Black-capped Chickadees, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Golden-crowned Kinglets, American Goldfinches, White-throated Sparrows, House Finches, and Song Sparrows.  It's so nice to see American Tree Sparrows, Purple Finches, and Dark-eyed Juncos.

Four crows were making a fuss together.

Cute little birds....Brown Creepers, Red-breasted Nuthatches and White-breasted Nuthatches were seen this week also.

Red-tailed Hawk

Still a few Turkey Vultures around.  I always miss them when they are gone over the winter.

Sifton Bog

Sifton Bog - London, Ontario

I went for a walk in the bog this morning.  Nice Fall colours of yellow and burgundy.  It was a cool 5c, cloudy, with Westerly winds.
The Larch (Tamarack) trees have turned yellow and are starting to drop its needles.

The bog was fairly quiet.  On the way back to the parking lot, I saw a Hermit Thrush on the fence.  I was thrilled to see it.  I also saw some American Robins, Blue Jays, Cardinals and Common Crow.
