I went for a short walk at Gibbons Park. There was a lot of debris around from the flooding last week. The lower parts of the park are like small lakes. The Canada Geese were enjoying that.

Pleasant Day at Gibbons Park

I went for a short walk at Gibbons Park. There was a lot of debris around from the flooding last week. The lower parts of the park are like small lakes. The Canada Geese were enjoying that.
I saw a couple of Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Mallards, Canada Geese, Red-winged Blackbirds, Common Crows, White-breasted Nuthatch, Cardinal, and Blue Jay.

Greenway Walk

It was a nice day to go for a walk in Greenway. I walked along the river and heard lots Red-winged Blackbirds...nice sounds of Spring!
I also saw Mallards, Canada Geese, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Cardinal, Common Crows, Rock Doves, Red-tailed Hawk, and Common Mergansers.
This area of Greenway is a large grass area beside the parking lot. Now it's a small lake, deep enough so that the mallards can swim around.
Still some Common Mergansers around.

It was a nice day to go for a walk in Greenway. I walked along the river and heard lots Red-winged Blackbirds...nice sounds of Spring!

Thames River Flooding

This has not been a good week for birding. We had a lot of rain first of the week with milder temperatures. Wednesday (February 21), the Thames River poured over its banks flooding areas of London. This is the worst flooding in decades (40 years). So, from the torrential rain and massive snow melt roads were closed. Wonderland Rd at Riverside Dr was closed to traffic (a main artery in West London) and up to Springbank Dr. for the day. I drive Wonderland Rd and Riverside Dr to get to Springbank Park and Greenway Park.
The photo below shows the walking bridge. It replaced the once known swinging bridge from years ago.
My photos today are nothing what it looked like yesterday. The river is slowly receding. The photo below shows the golf course which was under water way up to a hill covering one of the greens.
This photo shows an area where I bird a lot. The water was way up over the banks. At the end of the grass area was a steep hill and path to go down to the river.
I didn't see any ducks or geese in the river where I was walking. I was hoping to find Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds...didn't see any. The only bird I saw and heard was the Red-bellied Woodpecker.

Strolling in Greenway Park

I went for a walk in Greenway Park on this sunny morning. We still have a lot of snow topped with a hard crust from the freezing rain last weekend. I saw lots of Mallards and Canada Geese in the Thames River.
It was really nice to see a robin! I also heard a Red-bellied Woodpecker.
Walking along the river, there are lots of bushes and tangle that makes it difficult to take photos. I couldn't get a clear view of the Cardinal.
The Common Mergansers were at the other side of the river so trying to take photos through the tangle. There were also Common Goldeneyes, Bufflehead and Ring-billed Gulls.

Springbank Findings

I went for a walk in Springbank this morning. It was very cold. I had my mitts off taking photos and my fingers just went numb.
There were lots of Mallards and Canada Geese. I also saw Hooded Mergansers, Common Goldeneyes, and Black Ducks.
I saw some smaller birds today which was very nice. They were moving around in the cedar bushes.
I also saw a Red-breasted Nuthatch and Black-capped Chickadee but could not get photos as my fingers were frozen. The nuthatch and chickadee were flying over my head...they were very close.

Greenway Park

I thought I would try Greenway Park today so I walked along the Thames River. There were lots of Mallards, Canada Geese, heard a cardinal and blue jays. I saw a pair of Hooded Mergansers and Common Goldeneyes. The Hooded Mergansers are beautiful ducks.
