Mid-February Findings

I've been close to home at the Coves and Greenway Park lately.  I am now hearing Red-winged Blackbirds which is nice.

We've had some cold days and snowy days with freezing rain in the mix.

The ponds are still frozen but the Thames River is mostly open now.  I saw this Great Blue Heron trying to keep warm one morning.

Downy Woodpecker

Saturday morning at Greenway Park..it was snowing.  There were some nice groups of Common Goldeneyes, Common Mergansers, Hooded Mergansers and a continuing Redhead.

Along the river bank, I saw a nice flock of American Robins.

Looking forward to March to see some more interesting birds!

Here and There

I was out at Fanshawe Lake and walking along Thames River this week.  Feeling early signs of Spring...warmer temperatures and most of the snow has melted.  It was so nice to see two Eastern Bluebirds, one of my favorite birds.

It's always nice to see American Robins.

I saw 2 Muskrats on the ice on a nice sunny day early in the week.

I think this is a Red Fox.  I thought it might be a Coyote...a good size.  It was standing looking at me a distance away...I was getting my camera ready and it turned around and walked away.  I just got the back end.  It was a beautiful animal!

Birding - First week of February 2023

Some casual birding first week of February.  The weather has been cold, frigid, some days snow, temperatures feeling like -23c.  I was freezing birding, the poor birds trying to keep warm.
