Short Trip to Pond

Hyde Park Drainage Pond

I popped over to the Hyde Park Drainage Pond to see what was there.  It was a sunny, cool morning 7 degrees with a light westerly wind.  There was frost on the ground earlier.  I heard a Belted Kingfisher as I saw it land on top of a middle size tree.  Other birds included Song Sparrows, American Goldfinches, Robins, Mallards, Dark-eyed Juncos, Mourning Doves, and Ring-billed Gulls.

Still Some Colour along River

Springbank Park, Thames River, London, Ontario

There is still some colour along the Thames River.  It was a quiet morning at Springbank Park.  I saw White-breasted Nuthatch, Blue Jay, and Mallard. It was a cool 9 degrees, mostly cloudy.

Calm before the Storm

This morning was sunny and warm, 16 degrees.  Late morning the clouds started moving in as we are getting rain this afternoon/tonight.  The winds are going to pick up too.  So I'm glad I got most of my birding in earlier this morning.  I saw Carolina Wren, Mallards, Red-winged Blackbirds, Robins, White-throated Sparrows, American Goldfinch, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Cardinal, Cedar Waxwing, Black-capped Chickadees, Downy Woodpecker and Turkey Vulture.  

A big Northern Map Turtle although I don't see any red on it.

Springbank Park - October 17, 2017 - Beautiful sunny day...the same for the whole week!

The trees are in nice colours.  

There are still some plants flowering. I saw 4 Dark-eyed Juncos in there.

I also saw lots of Robins, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Crows, Canada Geese, and a Carolina Wren.

I thought I would go to Gibbons Park for a change this morning.  I walked on the dirt path along the river.  On the water, saw some Mallards and Canada Geese.  I also saw Cedar Waxwings, Blue Jays, Turkey Vultures, American Crows, Carolina Wren, House Sparrow, Starling and White-breasted Nuthatches plus the birds shown below....Northern Cardinal, American Robin, Song Sparrows, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Downy Woodpecker, Black-capped Chickadee, and American Goldfinch.

Thames River

Wet and Dreary Week

October 11, 2017 - Hyde Park Drainage Pond, London, Ontario

Most of the week has been very windy, rainy/drizzly, high 12 degrees.  The wind is blowing a lot of leaves off the trees.  I went to the Hyde Park Drainage Pond.  Didn't stay long as it was drizzling rain and very windy.  I scanned the pond....most of the ducks were Mallards.  Then this Great Blue Heron flew in.  What a magnificant bird.  As you can see from a lot of my previous posts, I really like Great Blue Herons. 

Thanksgiving Outing

Busy Pond this Morning

Hyde Park Drainage Pond

It was a nice sunny day, high of 21 degrees.  

As I was walking to the pond area, a very large, noisy flock of Canada Geese came flying in for landing.  There had to be at least 75+.  It looks to me they have been flying for awhile and were landing in for a rest.  In a little while, the geese settled down.  There was a lone Great Blue Heron and some Mallards.  Killdeers were flying around and Ring-billed Gulls.

The only butterflies I saw were sulphurs.  They were really flitting around and this is the only one I saw land.  I didn't what to move too close.  I really cropped this to see the markings on the butterfly.

 I'm guessing it's a Clouded Sulpur.

Humid Morning at Springbank Park

October 4, 2017 - Springbank Park, London, Ontario

It was a humid, mostly cloudy, dull day.  I went for a walk at Springbank this morning.  I saw Blue Jays, Double-crested Cormorant, Grackles, Robins, Red-winged Blackbird, Mallards, Canada Geese, Crows, Cardinals, Killdeers, Ring-billed Gulls, and Mourning Doves.
