Wildlife Findings

Week of April 19-25, 2020

We had a few nice days this past week. I got out to some open spaces to see what I can find.  Spring is arriving slowly but I'm seeing something different every week.

Turtles were out sunning themselves.  These are the first turtles I've seen this Spring.

Recent Outings - Mid-April

Physical Distance Birding

I'm mainly birding in open areas.  I will not go on narrow trails or boardwalks.  I will miss going to Sifton Bog this Spring.  The boardwalk is not safe distancing.
Here are some photos of wildlife I saw this past week.

Local April Birding

Week - April 5-11, 2020 - London, Ontario

With the Virus Pandemic going on, I have been birding close to home.  I usually do my birding in the morning, looking for areas where there are no people.  At local parks, there are some people but I keep my distance.

With Rondeau Park closed, this will be my first time not birding in May at Rondeau since 1983!

This past week, I saw a nice variety of birds. Below are some photos I took.

Bufflehead

Ring-necked Ducks

Song Sparrow

Hooded Mergansers - all female

Song Sparrow

Northern Flicker

Starling

First of year, Tree Swallows.

Some Local Birding - London

London, Ontario

In this time of the Covid-19 Virus Pandemic and physical distancing, I'm trying to find areas away from people.  I have been visiting some ponds in the area to find some nice duck species.  One day, I counted 18 Bufflehead.  Also, I've seen Ring-necked Ducks and Mallards. It's so nice to hear the Red-winged Blackbirds, Song Sparrows, American Robins, Carolina Wrens and Northern Cardinals singing.

(I continue to have camera problems...I can't get the focusing right.)

The Osprey has returned to nest in the same area as last year.

The last couple of days I have been hearing croaking frogs....very loud but could not find them.
