End of May Findings

I went to Komoka Park (May 29, 2024) to see what was around.  I did see a couple of butterflies and my first of year Common Whitetail.  I found Baltimore Orioles, Eastern Bluebirds, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Eastern Phoebe,  Red-eyed Vireo, Barn Swallows, and a Great Blue Heron to name a few.

I also went to Kains Woods ESA.  I have not been there for awhile.  There are trails and a valley which was very wet and muddy from the recent rain.  There are large trees so not much sun in the valley,

At the pond, Belted Kingfishers (male and female) were busy hunting fish, a Great Blue Heron and a few Canada Geese and Mallards.  As you can see by the Great Blue Heron photo, the pond is full of lily pads.

I was able to find some butterflies through the week.  There was not a lot...one has to really look for them.

This Painted Turtle was walking across the parking lot from the Cove pond so I watched and protected it to make sure it arrived at the other side to in a small pond.

Variety of Wildlife Found July 1-5, 2019

I was out to different areas in London this past week.  I was mainly looking for butterflies and dragonflies.  I'm aware of the birds around me but I'm mainly concentrating on insects.  I'm finding it's not easy finding butterflies so far.  Some areas I didn't see any butterflies at all!

Butterfly Milkweed

There was a long grassy area I was looking at when this huge raccoon came out and walked to the other side of the walkway and down to the river. It was huge!  Back looking around at the long grass area for butterflies....I turned to go back and there was a White-tailed Deer standing there staring at me!  It startled me!  The deer went on down to the river.  It was really nice seeing the raccoon and deer but found no butterflies.
