Beginning of October 2025 - Pleasant Days

It has been unseasonably warm with temperatures at 28c and lots of sunshine.  Everything is very dry with drought conditions.  Hardly any rain in September.  I have been to some wetlands and they are very dry.  Here are some photos from around London.

Findings in April 2025

I have been birding around the Coves, Hyde Park and Westminster Ponds lately.  I'm seeing a nice variety of birds as birds are returning.  I have seen Turkey Vultures and Eastern Phoebes recently.  We had one day last week that was warm and sunny but other days have been cooler with rain and even freezing rain/sleet.  Here are some of the birds I saw.

This Red-tailed Hawk came flying in and landed on a light standard looking around.  Then it took off right over me to the ground in a field.  I was taking photos of it when it took off.  It is rare for me to get flight photos.

At the soccer field, there were 8 Turkey Vultures resting on the light standards.

Wonderland Rd S Pond - August 20, 2024

I stopped by the pond to see what was around.  At the water area, Ring-billed Gull, Canada Geese, Mallards, Great Egret flyover, Great Blue Heron, lots of House Finches, American Goldfinches, Song Sparrows, Catbird, and Killdeer.

I saw these two birds at Komoka Friday.  It has been a long time since I've seen Dowitchers.

The Osprey family are around the nest area, lots of Killdeers, two Green Herons, American Goldfinches, House Finches, Mourning Doves, Eastern Kingbird, Catbird, Baltimore Oriole, Barn Swallows, Belted Kingfisher, Cedar Waxwings, Chimney Swifts, Song Sparrows, Northern Flicker, and American Robins.  The only butterfly I saw were Cabbage Whites.

Fall - Beautiful Time of Year

Bird migration has been in full force since September.  Weather wise, the Fall season has been really nice and very pleasant and comfortable for birding.   A lot of hawks have gone through with Turkey Vultures going through in large numbers right now.

These photos were taken at Springbank Park along Thames River....it was cloudy with a little fog.  The colours are gorgeous.
