Nicer Days in September

I was out this morning (November 28, 2018) in Springbank Park.  It was slippery as London was getting freezing drizzle, high of 1c, (feels like -2c) and cloudy.  It was very quiet.  I had no opportunity to take any photos.  There were lots of Canada Geese and Mallards.  The Thames River is very high from all the rain.  The island in the middle of the Thames at the Dam area is just about submerged under water. So, I'm showing a few photos I took in September to remember the nicer warmer days.

Toward the end of September there were lots of Sulphur species and Cabbage Whites.

Short Walk in Springbank

Springbank Park, London, Ontario

I went for a short walk in Springbank Park.  Had to be careful walking...it was a little slippery on the walkway.  It was cold, -2c, feels like -8c, cloudy with light flurries, NW wind gusting 31km.  
It was fairly quiet with a small group of Canada Geese, Mallards and saw one Herring Gull on the river.

I went to an area with thickets, etc to see if I can find some finches.  There was a few American Goldfinches and one Dark-eyed Junco.

Hyde Park Drainage Pond and Trail

-3c, feels like -9c, NW wind 26 km, sunny.....cold

I went for a walk in Hyde Park this morning....with the wind, it was cold as the pond is out in the open.  The first bird I saw was one Bufflehead. 

There were 17 Mallards and a few Canada Geese.  One of the geese a possible Cackling Goose.  I also saw Common Crows and a Ring-billed Gull....did not see the Great Blue Heron.

Sifton Bog

Sifton Bog - London, Ontario

I went for a walk in the bog this morning.  Nice Fall colours of yellow and burgundy.  It was a cool 5c, cloudy, with Westerly winds.
The Larch (Tamarack) trees have turned yellow and are starting to drop its needles. 

The bog was fairly quiet.  On the way back to the parking lot, I saw a Hermit Thrush on the fence.  I was thrilled to see it.  I also saw some American Robins, Blue Jays, Cardinals and Common Crow.

Blustery Walk

Hyde Park Drainage Pond, London Ontario

A short walk at Hyde Park today.  The sun was out but quickly clouded over.  Being in an open area, the wind was strong, gusting 39km from an Easterly direction.  It was 6c.
I was hoping to see some small birds, finches, etc. but no luck.  Didn't even hear any smaller birds.
I saw this hawk coming my way so I tried to get some photos of it.  I kept losing it from the gusty winds.  This is a terrible shot...I can't even get the colouring and markings on the hawk.

 Here is the Great Blue Heron looking for food.

Looks like I got a Cackling Goose here.  Let me know if this is wrong.  Thanks.

Drizzly Walk in Springbank

Springbank Park - Civic Gardens Area, London, Ontario

We've had a lot of rain so I have not been out much.  I decided to go to Springbank Park this afternoon which was 5c, cloudy, light rain/drizzle.
The Thames River is very high because of the rain and flowing fast.  The photo below shows the water over the banks.  These little trees and shrubbery usually are not in the water.

I took more photos of trees as they are so beautiful.  A lot of leaves have fallen, but some trees are still full of colour.  The photo below, Woodland Cemetery is to the left at the other side of these trees.

The photos of the birds I took are terrible with the dull sky and drizzle.

The photos below are around the Civic Gardens area.  The birds I saw were 4 Canada Geese flying over, American Robin, Downy Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Blue Jays and Northern Cardinals. I didn't see any birds in the river where I was.
